Assignment 29.1

Introduction

The following will contain different purposes of songs and how the music video contributes to the purpose with different aspects of the music video helping the purpose be seen by the audience.

Promotion of a Particular song: Lil Uzi Vert - Do What I Want

The song is called "Do what I Want" and it is sang by Symere Woods also known as  Lil Uzi Vert who is an artist of Atlanta Records. This purpose of this song is mainly for the promotion of the song and the carefree lifestyle that he lives. The music video was uploaded on the 27th April 2017. The purpose of this music video is to promote the music. Lil Uzi Vert was born on the 31st of July 1994 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States.

The music video fits this purpose as the scenery of the music video is a spaced out area that shows Lil Uzi Vert having fun with his friends. At the time 0.43-46 Lil Uzi Vert says "I can do anything and I cant lose her" this statement along side him walking on the edge of the pool can signify that the lives his life without worrying about responsibilities. The peaceful environment is that, that you would see on a holiday. This helps with the promotion of the song as it coincides with the purpose by having Lil Uzi Vert in the music video performing his track and portraying stress-less lifestyle.

At the time of 0.43-46 you can see the image above and below that has a green palm leaves and the background is the coast line. By having this image their the colour blue not only stimulates the audiences mind to realties to creativity but it also represents the promotion of the song. By Lil Uzi Vert having this in the song it could remind the audience of holidays and can relate to that when the user sees it. in the background the waves look peaceful and their is only one rock in the left of the background. By doing this it not only shows the audience of the music video how clear and undistorted the artist vision is, it also relates to the title of the song "Do what I want" by having a sight that is so beautiful that it can captivate those who are looking at it.

The visuals in this music video add to the promotion of the music video by engaging those who are watching with a style that they may not  used to. In the music video Lil Uzi Vert says "I don't pay no mind to them" which can be taken as he doesn't bother with things that doesn't concern him. This song was released with Atlanta Records and was promoted through the artist Lil Uzi Vert by social media. By releasing through the artist it helps the music to get to the right audience.

This purpose of this music video when compared to that of "Sucker For Pain" is that this music video is centred around a the promotion of a song through a lifestyle that not many people can experience in this life. However with "Sucker For Pain" that music video has certain aspects such as movie scenes from the movie that it is promoting. This music video achieves its purpose as the visuals that are constantly in the video present the music in a way that can be seen as a happy uplifting song which people would like to listen too and play consistently whilst Sucker For Pain takes a more different approach. This music video gives people the sight of freedom whilst promoting the song in general due to the nature of it. This can be seen in the chorus of the song, as the artist repeats the words "Now I do what I want". This can be seen as the artist promoting the song as this is the same name as the title of the song.

Promotion of the artist's album: Travis Scott ft Nav - Biebs in the Trap

This song is called "Biebs in the Trap"and it sang by Jacques Webster also known as Travis Scott and Nav. Travis Scott is a part of the record label Grand Hustle records. This song was uploaded to YouTube at December the 28th 2016. This song meets the purpose to promote the artist album. Travis Scott was born on the 30th of April 1992 in Houston, Texas, United States.

The name of this song is called "Biebs in the Trap" which can also be related to the name of the album which is called "Birds in the Trap" meant to promote the album more as if you search for this track in a browser it is most likely that the album will come up too due to the similarities in the names of the album and the name of this musical track. This was done so that the track could promote the actual
album that the song belonged to so that more people would have listened to it.

At the the time of 0.40-46 seconds in the music video you can see the image above. This image is used to stimulate the audiences mind to say that Travis scott is above that of a regular person and is a rockstar. This can be seen as the angle of which the camera is positioned is below him, which states that the audience and everyone who is watching is below him. The light in the background above him then flashes to have a lightning effect when it is seen. By doing this this music video promotes the album of beibs in the trap as in interviews for this album Travis Scott has always viewed himself as a rockstar, which he then portrays in the music video that follows. In the image can also be related to the Promotion of the artist album due to the theme and what can be seen. In the album does this by going in sync with the lyrics of the song whilst with the visuals also. It does this by the lyrics that are said at the time and where the location of the beibs in the trap was set and located. In the image below (0.52-59) it depicts the main artist whilst making the background white with light. The white light is used to represent a haze that that is behind the artist to show more of the artist. When you look at the album cover you can see white smoke that can also be represented as a haze coming the the artist's mouth and heading into the air.

This music video promotes the album as it there is a part at 0.52-59 where the artist says "Are you sure you want to party with the demons" which can be related to that of the album cover of Travis Scotts album, here he depicts himself as a dark or fallen angel. This can be seen within his eyes and the colours of his wings. This is promotion of the album as the images can be associated that of the album. It does this by creating an image that can be replaced or related graphically to what the image on the cover album is. The lyrics even  "Are you sure you want to party with the demons" can also relate to the promotion of the album as at this specific point in the music video we have a close up off the artist, that is done on the album but is portrayed in a different way.

The purpose of this music video when compared to that of "Wrecking Ball" by Miley Cyrus is is the way this song portrays the album and the way the way  other song is portrayed to promote the given change in direction. This album achieves its purpose by focusing on the specific aspects such as lyrics and moments in the music that promote the album whilst with "Wrecking ball" the artists aspects are mainly the theme of white to focus on the artist. This music video achieves its purpose of promoting the album as the visuals that are shown relate to that of the song which can then be portrayed to how the image of the album cover can be seen when you are listening to the song. This song is also filmed with distorting camera angles and flashing lights of different colours but mainly focused around black and blue.

Promotion of a new artist or promotion of an artist's change in musical direction or image: Miley Cyrus - Wrecking Ball

This song is called "Wrecking Ball" it is sang by Miley Cyrus who is a part of RCA Records. The purpose of the song was to give Miley a new direction within her standpoint of the music. This song was uploaded to YouTube on the 9th of September 2013. This purpose of this song is to promote Miley Cyrus's change to image. Miley Cyrus was born in Franklin, Tennessee on the 23rd of November 1992.

During this scene the colour that was constantly in play was white, even the background was white. This was done so that all of the attention would be on Miley Cyrus, so that as she changes her image the audience focuses on her more. At the time 1.35-39 the lyrics are "I came in like a wrecking ball" which can be a point to her changing her image from a Disney star to a rebel like a "wrecking ball". This can be seen constantly throughout the music video,as it goes with the purpose of the music video.

At the time of 1.35-1.39 in the music video the image from above can be seen. This is done so that it can evoke a change within the way people view the artist as a whole. An example of this would be the artist's previous music videos. The way within the artists hair is in the top can be seen as rebellious to the person that she once was and by having a white background, it focuses the attention solely on the artist herself so that those watching don't wonder and look at something else to stimulate their mind in a different manner. If you look at the image below which can be found between the times of 2.49-2.53. This helps meet the purpose of the music as the walls can be the life and standard that she used to live and by being on the wrecking ball she is crashing her precious image and life behind to show the world something new. The lyrics say "I've never hit so hard before" which can be related to that of the drastic change of how she changed her previous image to that of the current one.

During this scene you can see that Miley Cyrus is on a wrecking ball nude. This helps the promotion of the artist change in direction as she used to be a children star, however by appearing on the wrecking ball nude it shows that the image that she once was has changed because she now appeals to a more mature audience within her musical tracks. It also helps with her given direction as it goes in sync with the purpose of the music video.

This music video is fit for its purpose efficiently and when we look at this compared to KSI's "Creature" is that this music video and that music video have similar traits such as the theme of something new and unseen, however wrecking ball is more effective when hitting the purpose due to the fact that the music video portrays her image and vision more than KSI's Creature. This music video achieves its purpose by having a strong visual aspect that goes in sync with the lyrics to express the artists change of musical direction from her normal country music to know more of a pop, rap and hip hop style. When watching the music video this can be seen in multiple times with the camera angle showing the artist at the centre of the focus throughout the music video whilst adding the theme of the colour white to add purity to the the artists given direction.

Promotion of and synergy with another media product:Lil Wayne, Wiz Khalifa & Imagine Dragons w/ Logic & ty Dolla $ign ft X Ambassadors - Sucker for Pain

This song is called "Sucker for Pain" and it was made by the artists that were featured in it were: Lil Wayne (Cash Money Records), Wiz Khalifa (Atlanta Records), Imagine Dragons(Interscope Records), Logic (Def Jam Records), Dolla $ign (Atlanta Records) and Ambassadors (Interscope Records). This song is a example of synergy with a movie to help promote the movie Suicide Squad. This music video was made to try and increase the amount of people to who were going to watch the movie. There were over five songs released and multiple trailers so that the movie to hype it up before the release the date. This song was released on the 24th of June 2016.

In the music video from the time 2.15-20, you can clearly see the joker. This is a apart of the movie. This helps the music video meet the purpose as its combining the music with the movie so that if someone sees the music video they will be swayed to watch the movie also. By having the joker in the music video it grabs the users attention and adds a bit of mystery to what his role is in the movie. This promotes the music and the movie.

The picture above shows the joker with the emotion of anger that can be seen as him gritting his teeth as if he is potting to do something. By doing this not only does it go with the purpose as it promotes the movie, it also adds the question, what is he planning? By adding this to the music video along with Harley Quinn a few seconds later at 2.23-2.30 it goes with the lyrics that follows "I know I've been bussing no discussion for my family" which can be a reference to the Joker's and Harley relationship within the movie. By doing this it meets the purpose of the music video because not only are they referring to the movie with musical lyrics,it also does it with the scenes of the movie that re implemented in the music video to promote not only the music but the movie as well. The image below helps the purpose as it shows a different side to the movie, one of a more mature nature to appeal to the audience of a higher age range. At this time the lyrics that were said were "I talk to you, take my hand through the pain" which is referring to the other members that can be seen in the music video. This music video uses the scene to portray the lyrics and make the music video into a type of trailer for the movie.

During the time of 0.40-45 the scene contains bodies and masked people with weapons firing at each other. By showing this in the music video it not only does it show some action from the movie it also broadens he audiences perspective as if they go to see the movie they will also hear some the of the songs. which would then promote the song from the movie.

This music video efficiently meets its purpose as not only does it combine itself with a movie to make the range of people increase, it is proven to be successful and this music video has been successful in both the promotion of the music and the music video in general. When compared to the music video Eminem Not Afraid this music video achieves its purpose more efficiently as the music video always referred meaning to the characters inside the movie, and also portrayed the musical artists in the song as members of the suicide squad, to further promote the song and the movie. It does this by using certain themes and then showing the same themes in the movie. An example would be Harley's theme as it is a cage and the beginning artist theme was also a cage. This means that the beginning artist was representing the movies Harley Quinn.

Increasing the income for record company: Eminem - Not Afraid

This song is called "Not Afraid" and is rapped by an artist called Marshall Bruce Mathers III, also known as Eminem. This music video was made to increase the income for the record company Shady Records. This music video currently has over one billion views on YouTube and was uploaded to YouTube at the date of 4th of June 2010. Eminem was born on the 17th of October 1972, in Saint Joseph, Missouri, United States.

This music video helps meet the purpose as he owns Shady Records. So he would get the direct profit of the music video and the amount of plays that it would get. As this song did well Eminem would have received an estimated just under one million from this song on the social media platform of YouTube itself.

At the time of 0.53-0.58 the scene then goes from a rooftop to the image shown above. This is done to portray the artists message through pain and put it within the music that he sells to increase income. Within the lyrics of this music video, the artist puts emotion and pain into the lyrics that he was rapping about so that it would appeal to a mass audience to achieve the purpose of this music video. By going from a rooftop to a basement setting it symbolises the stand point of the artists mindset to have more of a meaning than the plain and traditional music videos. This can even bee seen in the background as it is made to seem dark, miserable and low. This helps with the purpose as it helps him to hit and get the audience of poverty to be able to "take a stand" (3.45-3.59) as it is said in the chorus of the music video. By getting the audience appealed and entertained it meets its purpose as they would be the ones downloading this music to increase the revenue for the record label. The bottom image shows the artist walking on the pavement to signify how people walk through life and how they would need to break the typical cycle of life which is learn work dide.
,

By this record being successful it increased the amount of revenue that shady records had and was even the most successful at the time. It stayed at number one on the UK top 40 singles for over two weeks. This meant that not only was it promoting the record label and Eminem as an artist but it was also getting commodities. Shady records is currently worth over two hundred million.

This music video when compared to that of Lil Uzi Vert's Do What I Want effective hits its purpose by  putting emotion  and a type of storytelling music video to stimulate the audiences mind to relate to them whilst the style of Do What I Want is more of a music video that portrays a rich lifestyle that most people will never see for themselves. This music video achieves its purpose as it has made a lot of money for the record label in the past and even today it still is. This is because this music video appealed to the listeners and pleased them visually as the music video can be seen as a struggle that people can look at and be inspired to do something with their life or encourage them to take action as it said in the lyrics"ima fight my demons" which means that the artist is telling the listener to fight for what they want and as those lyrics where there the artist was breaking down a wall and jumping through glass. The glass and bricks were the barrier stopping them from doing that they want. By using these techniques it effectively grabbed the audiences attention to sell over a million copies for the record label.

Increasing the range of media artist is active in: KSI - Creature

This song is called "Creature" and it was made by an artist of Island Records called KSI. This song is an example of KSI increasing the range of media that he is in currently in. Olajide William Olatuni also known as KSI is a YouTuber, comedian, and actor who is branching in new media to be apart of.  The song was posted to YouTube on the 27th of June to mark his return to the social media and to try to and recapture his audience. He was born on the 19th of June in Watford United Kingdom.

In the music video at the time 2.43-6 KSI says the words"Take my whole name and own it, can't control me and you know it" which referrers to the name KSI and how influential his name is due to the different media that he is in, such as movies, books and sports. This statement also means that he plans to continue on this pathway to keep branching out to new media that he likes and no one can control him or try and tell him what to do. The music video fits the purpose as during the time of him rapping this, the theme of the music video is white which can be related to his purity and freshness coming into this media scene.

The picture above shows the artist in restraint with a white background to signify his branch into a different media range such as music. By showing this and him in the centre and the camera it helps meet the purpose as its different type of style that has this artists original twist to it for it to be defined as his own personal way of going into music. The  reason why KSI did his music video this way was because it defines where he stands and it is not only a good way to branch out and bring other media in, it gives KSI a firm stepping stone into the musical range of media due to the fact that the visuals within the image above has psychological aspects that not only relate to the theme of the music video but it helps the audience to be able to understand where and what this artist has done in other media products such as movies. The image at the bottom of the seen is set within a forest which can be seen as the artist getting closer to nature to also become purer as the lyrics of this song relate to a fresh start within the musical media medium.

When KSI says "Everytime we growing they'll try slowing all the progress that we made" This is about the difficulty of going into different media projects and being consistent with them. In the music video right under his chin he is wearing goggles, that he made. This goes in with the purpose because it shows that hes promoting his fashion whilst extending to a media that he enjoys. By putting it in the video he is not only bringing in his fashion into the music video but it is also meeting the purpose of the music video.

This music video efficiently hits its purpose when compared to that of Biebs in the Trap by Travis Scott this music video branches into its new media by having visual effects such as rain falling upwards to  signify a unique wave and style that this artists brings into his music videos whilst the Biebs in the Trap music video had different camera affects to show statistical rank. This music video achieves its purpose as not only does it bring other aspects of the artists life into play so that the music video is promoting more than just the range that the artist is trying to get in, it also puts them into the music video at specific times for the user to recognise at 3.15 and at 2.25 to help them to branch into this media product and prove that the artist isn't going to stop at this as after this to branch more into the musical side the artist has realest more songs.
